LOCAL LITERARY EVENTS: Joyce sends 2 San Gabriel Writers' League events at Georgetown Public Library: (1) Georgetown Public Library March 3rd, 6:00 PM Hear the stories and personal journeys of three new female authors: A former Catholic nun, a genocide survivor, and a retired manager and director in the corporate and non-profit sectors - all telling their stories.
(2) On March 6th at 6:30 p.m., the San Gabriel Writers' League will have Amanda Skenendore as a guest speaker. She is an award-winning author of historical fiction and a registered nurse. Her books have been translated into multiple languages and garnered accolades from the American Library Association, Reader’s Digest, Silicon Valley Reads, and Apple Books. In 2024, she was awarded the Nevada Arts Council Literary Fellowship. Her writing explores lesser-known corners of history and often includes themes of medicine, justice, and belonging. Lillian desperately tried to entice her mother out of book fixation with food.

 

breakfast with eggs

 

sumptuous mashed potatoes (got my attention)

 

Cafe Mocha

 

And finally

One freshly picked Washington State apple.

 

Recipe: Lillian's Coffee Mocha 

 

Ingredients:

Whole milk

orange

cinnamon stick

small amount of ground anise

Baker's dark chocolate

brewed coffee

whipped cream (use the canned type)

 

Instructions:

Brew coffee (keep it warm)

 

Grab your orange,

 inhale deeply enjoy the scent

zest the orange rind. 

set aside with the rest of the orange

 

Grab the square of Chocolate 

grate some into a small pile

take enjoy the scent 

set aside

 

in a medium size pan 

simmer the milk

add orange zest

half a stick of cinnamon

add the chocolate 

and stir the mixture gently

Enjoying the scents as you go.

 

add the anise

continue stirring till it's ready.

 

pour a half cup of coffee in a large cup.

Add the Chocolate Mixture

Top with Whipped Cream

 

inhale all the scents

serve
